Sokyou is a UK-based award-winning Writer-Director. She was born and raised in Cambodia. From the age of 11 she has lived and studied in Vietnam, Singapore and the UK. Besides her native Khmer, Sokyou is fluent in English, Vietnamese, and Mandarin Chinese. She also has basic proficiency in Teochew, a dialect spoken in Shantou, China, to which she has ancestral connections. She earned a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Physics from the University of Manchester in 2012. After graduation, she returned to Cambodia to teach science before belatedly responding to her calling in storytelling.

Her debut fictional short film សេះហោះ (The Ride) (2013) was selected into the final of the TROPFEST SEA 2013 short film festival. Later, she wrote and directed several short films (fiction and non-fiction) that addressed social issues and carried educational messages, distributed via social media platforms. She has written two successful plays: អណ្តើកក្លាហាន (The Courageous Turtle) (2016) addressing the topic of civil courage, which toured domestically for 3 years and has been performed locally and internationally, and ផ្ទះកសិដ្ឋានធម្មជាតិ (The Nature Farm House) (2022) addressing the topic of human connection in the social media era.

She pitched Soul Searching, a supernatural comedy thriller feature film project, as writer-director and won the top prize - the Bucheon Award - in the Network of Asia Fantastic Film (NAFF) project market at the Bucheon International Film Festival, 2018.
In the meantime, between 2016-2021, she was also the Co-Founder and Managing Director of a startup company, Chea Jofeh Co., Ltd., that provided technical consultancy for SME manufacturers as well as technical education in Cambodia.

er debut feature film, Tenement (អ្នកស្នងអគារ), which she co-wrote and co-directed, received its world premier after 4 years in the making at the Rotterdam International Film Festival (IFFR) in 2024. It was in the the Big Screen Competition, representing Cambodia and has been screened in more than 10 International Film Festivals since. The film has been sold to international territories including North America, Spain, France, Russia, Taiwan, Philippines, Vietnam, Myanmar. 


Sokyou moved to the UK in 2022 and was later awarded the prestigious 'Voices That Matter – Women in the Screen Industries' scholarship from MetFilm School London, UWL. This opportunity enabled her to pursue a Master of Arts in Directing. She graduated in December 2024, earning the degree with Distinction.
